CFA x SQE x STRIKE

Hello fellow students at California State University Long Beach,

My name is Norberto Lopez and a current member of Students for Quality Education, also known as SQE. Many of you have seen us tabling, protesting, and conducting class presentations last semester about the fight for five and the sustainability model. In case you haven’t seen us or met us, we are statewide advocacy student group that fights to keep the CSU affordable, accessible, and most importantly to maintain quality education. Currently we are standing in solidarity with faculty to get their 5% raise because their working conditions are our learning conditions. If the CSU board of trustees does not give faculty the 5% increase they want a strike has been approved. As students we are facing a new proposed sustainability financial model that plans on increasing tuition, pushing for students to pay more out of pockets as an incentive for graduation, increasing the application fee by $15, and more cruel things for future students. On March 8th we are calling all students to participate in a protest at the Chancellors office located in Long Beach to let Board of trustees know that we the students despise this model and do not agree with their plans of privatizing the CSU. We are currently pushing a new movement called “Humans of the CSU” and we would love for students to share a bit about their experience at a CSU.
